Official Polaris replacement mechanism.

I didn't realize this when ordering, but this appears to be the official Polaris replacement mechanism - it comes in a Polaris logo'd bag, with Polaris replacement instructions (not that the replacement process needs much instruction). Because the previous mechanism had been wearing out for some time (and apparently leaking water, partially but continuously) the Polaris was moving around the pool very slowly (and I had begun to think I had other issues). After replacing this item, the Polaris is back to it's old self again, moving around the pool very nicely and picking up any debris. I bought a new zipper bag too, which also helped.

Works OK for the money

The installation is pretty straight forward. However, this valve does not work like the original. When it goes in reverse, it is very soft, it hardly moves the Polaris backwards.

Good part but unnecessary in my case

This fixed thee problem. Fast delivery and just as described by seller who I thank. However, on closer examination I found that I could have fixed the issue by pushing the "axle-pin" that goes through the very small drive gear to center this gear and remove the play in it that allowed it to move between the large gear it was supposed to mesh with and the next gear. My fault for not examining closer. Live and learn... I now have an extra for next time. :^)

only lasted two years

I'm pretty disappointed that I have to replace this after only two years, The original lasted 10 years, Polaris stopped climbing the walls and when I finally eliminated everything else I discovered that the valve wasn't closing all the way and thereby leaking water and reducing the pressure at the bottom of the Polaris. After removing the mechanism I found the bearing/sleeve the is the axle to the main impeller was worn so badly that the gear on the opposite side would lose contact with the gear it is supposed to drive. Apparently it was doing this during the reverse mode and never closed again to propel the Polaris at it's full on mode. I'm switching to the Mahoon brand to see if it'll be better and last longer.

Best way to Repair Backup

If you need a new polaris backup valve, just buy the "guts" here, for half the price of a new one. Easy to install. A bit hard to take apart valve, so when you put it back together, apply a liberal coat of silicone grease to threads.

Worked great

Installed perfectly. Used a heat gun to separate shell of backup valve. This is a factory part.

Fits like OEM

Our Polaris is working fine again. You've got to be a little handy to work on these but it's no hard. Beats paying the pool guy big bucks for a simple job.
