Issue with the set up/solved with a call
I had a problem with the set up as instructions were not really all that clear as what button does what. After calling Sportdog, it was all sorted out. They answered fast, were responsive and offered to send out a part I ended up not needing. Walked me though the issues I was having. I primarily use this for tracking my dogs on a farm and the land next to me to know if I need to go get them or not. Once set up, this has worked excellent! Now I can keep working knowing that they are just out hunting instead of heading out on a winery tour. While the cost is high, the peace of mind is well worth it. So far the pups have only ranged 1 mile away which is fine herein the unit worked well. For me, setting up the voice commands to notify you what they were doing was a mistake! It was annoying to be notified what seemed like all the time what they were up to and it killed the handheld battery in half a day. The collar looks like it will go 2-3 days without a charge but after turning off notifications, the handheld will easily last the 13 hours I need it to. I'd recommend the product for my use for sure.

Technophobes need not worry!
I have had this unit for five days now and have had ample opportunity to test it. I bought it because I hike with my dog very often, and in Oregon that means we are hiking in the forest. My dog will not run off but no matter how much orange I put on him he is easy to lose sight of and I don't want to call out to him if there is no need to do so. I must admit that having read the negative reviews I approached my purchase with a bit of fear and loathing, but because I have had a terrific experience with my SportDOG 425 I took the plunge. My observations: 1) The unit is very easy to set up. For me the most difficult part was threading the lanyard on to the handheld. The downloadable instructions are easy to find and easy to follow. For context, I am a 67 year old technical laughingstock and I had no trouble following the setup guide. It took me about 45 minutes because I am slow, but all you have to do is read the instructions and you'll be fine. 2) I first tested the unit on my German Shorthaired Pointer on a beach on the Oregon coast; as you would expect it worked flawlessly in that environment. Next I went for a couple of hours on a trail in a heavily forested area. Again, flawless. I was really afraid that the heavy tree canopy and the ravines would prohibit the unit from receiving a signal but not so; it worked great! 3) The handheld is easy enough to use. I played with it for about an hour prior to using it with the dog for the first time and once I got the hang of it I could navigate around it pretty easily. Think of it as being about the same as learning to navigate around a new phone; you just have to use it for a bit. Like your phone it can be a little hard to see in the bright sunlight. The handheld is relatively large and at 10.6 oz. (yes, I weighed it) for me is a little too heavy to wear around my neck. If I were using it while carrying a shotgun I think a belt clip or holster be more comfortable and useful than a lanyard. I am going to try a carabineer next time out to see how that works. 4) I did not need the help of SportDOG's customer service department to set this up, but I have contacted them on two other occasions for questions about my 425 and found them to be available, knowledgeable, and sincerely willing to help. My only comment is that they don't have a real overnight shipping option at any price. It's next business day after a day of processing so if you order a part on Thursday morning you won't get it until Monday so be prepared for that. 5) It's fun to tell little kids who ask about the antenna that your dog is actually a robot that you can control with a remote. If you need a GPS tracker for your dog I don't think you will go wrong with this unit.

Never Lose Another Dog!
I am very thankful for this unit. I have been using it for about six months when I walk and train my German Shorthair Pointer. The only problems I've really had were operator error, such as I forgot to plug it in and get a full charge before going out with my dog. Last year I lost a dog hunting and it was a pretty sad couple of months. I'm still not quite over it. Don't know what happened to her. I had to buy a new dog, and I determined that I would not lose another dog. I researched what I could for tracking collars. I like this one because it has the display on the hand controller and doesn't require you to add yet another app to your phone, or carry your phone with you hunting. I usually do, but I like to save battery where I can on my phone for emergencies and following my dog on the phone screen does not save battery. This is convenient. I think you can tether it to your phone also, but not sure. It also downloads to your computer if you like. I'm not much for that. I also like the charging system it comes with, it is easy to use, though you do have to make sure it vibrates when you plug it in. It gives you eight hours charge which is generally enough even for the longest day's chukar hunting. Though it would be nice if there was someway you could preserve that charge. Even an auxiliary battery would be beneficial. It will tell you when your dog is on point. Well, in my experience that isn't entirely true, it merely tells you where your dog is and says that it is on point 200 yards in front or to the right of you etc. It says your dog is on point even while you see your dog running in front of you. I turned that feature off. Rather, worthless. If my dog was sitting still for a minute before the controller determined it was on point, that might be nice. But truth is I just want to be able to track my dog and know where he is if he gets over a ridge before I do. So far I have used this collar effectively to train my dog for a number of things including finding shed antlers. I found the training guide CD that came with the system to be very helpful and especially the tip to always do something fun with the dog right after you put it on so they associate it with fun rather than work or discipline.

Small screen
System works well the only problem I have is that screen isn't bright enough on a bright day. Also the icon of the moving dog is just an X.

Screen is too Small
I like the ease of use and some of the features but for me it has too many bells and whistles. I am in my early 60's and have better than average eyesight but I can't see the screen very well. If you have trouble seeing close up you will struggle to see the screen easily. Battery life is good and setup is easy. There are no yearly fees for maps like some other GPS systems. Sure wish the screen was bigger and a belt clip added. I would seriously consider other units before buying the Tek 2.0 again.

Great product and amazing support.
Nobody wants to read 2 page reviews so let's get to it. You really have 2 choices here, sportdog or garmin. Here's why I switched from Garmin. 1. Customer service. Honestly these guys cannot be beat. If you have any issues what so ever, they will go above and beyond to remedy them. My hats off to sportdog for that. Amazon has the best return policy around, if they don't work out for you return them before the 30 days. If you like them and are worried about the longterm investment, don't be. Sportdog will stand behind their stuff as long as you own it. 2. No touchscreen. I'm not using this at the dog park with my designer jeans and Starbucks. I don't want to have to fiddle with gloves to get things to work in a hurry. Large buttons that are easy to figure out without looking. If my dogs in trouble I don't have time to mess around. 3. Range. Much better than the alpha I had before this. That said, my unit does drop my dogs now and again depending on terrain but I never lose them for more than a minute on the monitor. One thing to add, if they drop off gps the training aspect still works so I can recall with the tone if I'm concerned. (My dogs are obviously trained to come back on tone) Still so far this unit has better range than alpha. My location is BC by the way, so lots of hills and mountains. 4. Audio updates are great. I don't have to look at my unit to know what's going on. I'm out in the bush to avoid staring at a screen. 5. No subscription for maps. 6. Price is comparable on both. That said, shop around. I bought my kit off Amazon and my extra collars from other retailers. Saves a few bucks shopping around. Okay, that said, they do have downfalls too. 1. Screen protector or case. This is a pricey kit and I want to make sure when I'm going through the bush it's protected. I'm also sure many people don't want a 1 lb necklace to get tangled in shrubs and trees. Some product specific accessories would be nice so I don't need to make other stuff "work" 2. Light becon, yes you can get one after the fact but for a thousand dollars, it wouldn't hurt to throw one in the kit. Then when I buy a spare collar I'll have to buy the beacon as well so everything matches. 3. Battery life. It's not great compared to garmin. I get maybe 8 hrs of real use on my controller. Also it would be great to know exactly how much battery is left in the collars. I charge them every time I come home only because I don't want to be stuck with a dead collar. It probably wouldn't be that difficult to have something that plugs into the collar to let me know how much battery is left. Maybe even have a series of 4 leds on the side that shows how many bars of battery are left when the collar is turned on. I know the collar light changes color when they are needing to be charged but what does that mean? How much time do I have? 4. Charging station for more than one collar. I made my own if you have a look at the photo. Would be nice not to have a bunch of collars spread all over the counter top and everything has a home. I imagine with some creativity you'd be able to make a station that works for all your units. That's it for now. Stay tuned for more info as I give these babies a run.

This product is a joy to use and inspires confidence!
I have a large three year old female American Akita. I am 76 and currently recovering from heart failure. Although I can get around moderately well in the woods to exercise my dog off the leash, there were occasions when she would completely vanish and leave me bewildered. After a fair amount of research I purchased the Sportdog Brand Tek Series 1.5 GPS Tracking System. This system suits my needs perfectly. I now know exactly where my dog is and I am discovering some of her habits. I always knew that I had a dog that could move swiftly and silently through the woods. However, I was astonished when I realized that she likes to hide from me and peep at me from behind the trees! The 1.5 Tracking System is easy to use and I will never exercise my dog off the leash without it. Worth more than just 'Five Stars!'

Perfect
I walk a mountain daily with me 2 dogs. I need to know where they are at all times. My one dog is very young and had no recall. I use the e collar only when absolutely necessary on her.

Came as advertised, and on scheduel
It works as it should, good tracking, reasonably accurate as far as distance from the dog. Only thing, is the dial, can be stiff or rough to turn. Always works, just not smooth. Very minor, to non issue. Love it. And enjoy using it.
