So far inconsistent quality

The very first file I grabbed from the box had uneven sides . One of the corners was much larger than the other 2 . The next one was fine , and I used that to retooth a vintage silver steel plate from 14 cross cut to rip . The hardness of that file seemed good and it cut well and is still useable . I have not looked at the rest of the dozen in the box . Maybe will update this review later , as I have more saws to do .

Dirt Cheap, Terrible Quality Control, Functional

So at least for me these are priced lower than any other double extra slim tapers, at this 8" length. I bit and ended up with a box of decently sharp, often crooked files. I mean seriously crooked; fortunately most of them are usable if you're mindful that they're not going to double as straight edges. They have a fine bite to them, but I haven't tested them for edge retention; let's just say I have my doubts. I definitely like these for giving to students though, and I would probably buy them again now that I know what they'll be like; assuming of course the price stays really low.

Made In China

I have a lot of the Mercer files in many different shapes, sizes and cuts. The BTRX06 is the first I have seen that was made in China. All the others that I have were made in India.

They appear to be alright. I haven't had to use one yet. Check with me in a month or so.

Size does matter!

These files seem to be OK quality wise but they are not marked for size on the file itself and I think the ones I received marked 5 inch double extra slim taper on the box are closer to 5 inch extra slim. I can still use them as extra slim but will buy double extras elsewhere
