Alcohol ink: great for gravity art, no staining
This is one of the papers I use for alcohol ink art - and they all have different "features" and work better for different types of techniques. I find this one best for gravity flow - most notably because it does not stain at all. Any color is easily removed easily with alcohol. It's also super "slick" allowing the ink to move quickly. These attributes can make more flow-based art do-able but more challenging than other types of papers. I build my pieces over white paper so I can see what's happening and what they will look like once mounted on white backing board. It can take quite a bit of time and ink to range to deeper (opaque color), but even this can provide interesting options (mount "build" facing and see the different thicknesses of the ink, or "back-facing" where it looks smooth. I removed one star because I'd like just a bit more "stickiness" for the ink and alcohol so there could be a bit more control - even if it were just a bit of clear coating or light texture. The colors are as vibrant out of the bottle, but it can take some time to build up the depth to get to that point. The other cool thing is because it is absolutely clear, pieces can be float-mounted which adds some really cool depth. However, because the paper isn't really thick, the process is a bit of a challenge. In terms of sealing and uv-spraying, the result is not as "smooth" as other papers, the spray from the can doesn't spread out as much, and also, because it's clear which is probably the reason it shows more, any speck of dust from the environment seems to show more. When this happens, I use a fingernail buffing block and sand the finish and re-spray and hope no dust lands in the wet coating. It's also important to note (because it's transparent) that any ink that is on the back from creating should be removed before spraying, because sometimes spray gets on the backside (usually from the edges, but sometimes because the surface it's laid on might not be completely dry from another piece). In both cases, these can be removed with 99% isopropyl and a little rubbing. I'd recommend this paper as an option to add to a collection of synthetic papers, just be ready to alter techniques to adjust to its unique properties. Happy creating! Good supplement for tympan paper
I use this product as a topsheet for letterpress printing with a traditional platen press. Oiled tympan paper is not as commonly available as it once was, but it can still be found. What I do is place my tympan paper on the platen and lock it in, then cut a sheet of Dura-Lar to cover the printing area, taping it in place with vinyl tape. I ink up my form and run an impression directly on the Dura-Lar. Once you have the impression, you can set up "compressible gauge pins" or other adhesive-based paper guides. Once this is done, tissue paper with a little kerosene or lighter fluid will serve to remove the impression. This is accomplished much more easily than with a traditional oiled tympan topsheet as you can never seem to get all the ink off, which means that the back of your work will have a residual impression on it for a few cycles at least. Adhesives commonly used on Scotch double-sided adhesive tape and similar products typically stick to Dura-Lar much better than they do to oiled tympan as well. Dura-Lar cuts easily and lays flat. It is durable and doesn't seem to harm lead & wood type or common photopolymer plates. I have not tried to use it with traditional gauge pins, but I see no reason it would not work. If I wanted to do this for some reason, though, I would cut the Dura-Lar very close to the impression area and place my gauge pins in the tympan paper. This seems a good way to avoid smashing type and increasingly difficult-to-find gauge pins, if nothing else. If you have to, you can use the same sheet of Dura-Lar to run a second impression if the press run wasn't too long and I have done this for jobs that are not critical. Realistically though, get another sheet for subsequent press runs, it isn't very expensive and this will avoid problems, especially if the first impression was at all heavy as is common practice these days in order to get a "bite" on the paper. I am not sure what this product was designed to do, but as a pressman's topsheet, it is just about as good as it gets!

Only marginally better than glass
You cannot duplicate lighter values that you may want to consider for a background of a watercolor portrait. You will only get a decent idea with dark, solid values. It’s better than nothing and works slightly better than a piece of glass. It’s also preferable to permanently ruining your original portrait

great substitute for glass surface
I'm working with artist's spray dye. It requires a glass surface under the cardstock while spraying the dye, then wipe the glass clean. I've had the Grafix acetate for about 3 weeks, and began using it this week under the work. What a great product.

Awesome alternative surface to paper for drawing.
I used this film for drawing with colored pencil. It erases easily, but the color you lay down after isn't as vibrant. You also have to use really even pressure as you lay down the color otherwise it looks streaky. I placed black cardstock under the film so I could see better, as I draw on a clear glass top but this may not be necessary when you draw on it. The Duralar film really is a unique drawing surface, but like any paper it takes some testing to learn how to work with it best.

Trying this out for colored pencil work
I probably haven't tested this enough - it's an interesting surface that can be worked on both sides. For layers of colored pencil, only so many can be applied, and apparently, if erased more than a few times, all "tooth" is lost and it literally can't hold any more colored pencil (oil or wax based). I found that out the hard way, and had to apply some ink and craft paint in a few areas in order to salvage my parrot drawing. The experts call this particular surface "student grade," so just be aware that it's great for inks, but just okay for serious colored pencil use. It seems fine for less detailed work, such as cartoons and illustrations. Most often, a backer sheet is used to either add color or make the drawing pop. The artist grade film is much more expensive, so this is fine for learning!

Acetate sheets
Does the job ... good quality

Opaque good quality surface
Good feel and even opacity. Great for adding colour on the front and/or reverse. If just on the reverse colour is paler due to looking through the opacity. If on both sides it intensifies the colour. Lots of other techniques you can do, but this is the basics.

Great product
Never used this before although I’ve been doing drawing for many years. Great results with colour pencils

Heat resistant!
Used my heat tool on the acetate when embossing with a stamp. The acetate did not warp at all. I cut with my dies, also.

Awesome to draw on...
I love this paper... (drafting film) it's so easy to draw on... I've only been drawing for about 6 months so I have a lot to learn...
