Nostalgia Piece
My kid has a pair of glow-in-the-dark jammies and was surprised by their glow when going to bed one night. I kept charging them using my phone's flashlight but it just wasn't as vibrant as I knew it could be. Then BING "light bulb moment". I used to have two of these blacklights in my room growing up and it always gave off a cool glow to certain objects and clothing. So, nostalgia set in, I ordered this and got to rediscover how cool blacklights are with my kids. It came shipped in a sturdy box and the seller took extra precautions to protect the glass bulb inside. Worked just as intended right out of the box. Blacklight is not meant to be a bright purple colored light and its intended purpose is to illuminate phosphorescent materials. That means glow-in-the-dark for the intellectually challenged.

Ehhh, just okay.
I wanted old school black light and this sure looks like one. I got the 48 inch and I don't think the 48 inch is worth it. I used to have one half the size that really emitted black light and covered the whole room. When I plug in this 48 inch one in a smaller room than the one I used to use half the size, it doesn't cover the whole room. I was fine with jiggling bulb until it works or snaps back into position but the fact that this is a 48 inch old school black light should cover my whole room which is fairly small. It may be better if you get two small ones or three small ones to cover a small room. This black light illuminated stuff within 3 feet, anything beyond that was not illuminated. I did research and still had decided on this one, as I found out the old school black lights true emitters of blue light or black light are t8 bulbs. But aside from product the shipping was great, it is well packaged to not break during shipping which I was worried about. Amazon has done a great job wrapping this and shipping this. It had like foam wrapped around the bulb, they way it was packed is great..

even tho the price has gone way up on these classic black lights over the years they are still a great light and so much better then the newer LED ones. my son loves it since it makes all his stares on his celing glow. my only issue with this one is the plug is VERY short

Doesn't cover much area
Once plugged in the light doesn't cover much area. For photos it has to be right above the person. Also within the 1st month my dog chewed the cors in half.????‍♀️

Blackight Goodness!!
First let me comment about the way this was packaged. The retail packaging was packed great great, lots of styrofoam supporting the item and the glass tube. The packaging from Amazon was another story. Although the outer ship box was correct in size it was packed with that crappy butcher paper that Amazon has started to use. Totally unacceptable way to ship such a fragile item. Just a note, i ordered an item at the same time that was not at all fragile, and it came in a heavy duty box swimming in bubble wrap, also shipped by Amazon! Really? When you first get it out of the box you will have to remove the foam covering the tube. People have tried to remove the covering by cutting it for fear of damaging the tube by removing it. You have a really good chance of damaging it if you DON'T remove it. Relax, it's easy. Just place you thumbs and forefingers on the meatal ends of the tube (not the glass) and twist towards you until it releases 9you'll feel it). Then just pull straight out. See, no big deal! Remove the foam, and replace by doing just the opposite. Easy Peasy! Now for the review. The light itself is of very good quality, much better than i expected for the price. The Bulb itself was of super high quality, not a complaint! Some people have complained about the electrical cord being very short, and it is. It's just under 4 feet, but that is not unusual for these type of fixtures. The unit has holes so that it can be mounted vertically or horizontally. It also does not buzz like other lights of it's type, almost silent (very nice). The on/off switch is a very solid rocker. This unit gives out a true black light that is somewhat subdued. Many people think that a black light is supposed to be really bright in order to do it's job. Nonsense, bright lights that claim to be black lighs are nothing more than reqular lights with a color coating that turns the room a color. True black lights will glow a room with little actual "brightness". That is what this light does. This light will give an awesome glow to anything flourescent. If you need a replacement bulb you can get one at [...] for $9.99. It's the cheapest that i have found.

Not fit for use
We purchased this in late July and were happy enough with it despite the casing being cheap plastic. T8 black lights aren't overly common anymore and we were pleased enough with the results that we ordered some more in August. Fast forward a couple weeks: -The original one stopped working after around 6 hours of use. (after placing our second order unfortunately) -In the second batch, one was dead on arrival utterly and completely. -Another one functioned about 5 seconds then followed that with a loud pop which was followed by a smoke show in the house. It's currently outside cooling down as I'd rather not burn down my house. -Another in the second batch had a defective bulb, the base was not properly fastened to the glass bulb. The light fixture itself did work though so I took the bulb from the first order and placed it in this fixture. This failure rate is completely alarming and if Amazon is reading this, I would recommend consideration in removing this manufacturer from their service. If their QC in P.R.C. for this product is so poor, I question why it would be any different with any of their other products.

Overpriced, cheap and low output.
For 50 dollars this is way overpriced. Product is super cheap plastic. There is something rolling around in the bulb as you tilt it, for the one I received. The output of the bulb is really weak and so a single bulb unit is really useless. Anyone that suggests this will light up a 10x10 room is overstating the facts big time. It might offer some glow but its extreemly faint. As mentioned by others already, the cords is ridiculously short. This would have been overlooked if the output wasn't so lousy, To get anything really useful out of it, I would have to order 2 units and for 100 dollars, you're better off buying a commercial housing unit that fits 2 stronger output bulbs for a much cheaper price. A fair price for this unit would be half or 25 bucks.

Love it!
First, I had to ask for a replacement product since I received one whose bulb was completely broken inside the package. BUT, I was amazed by the second unit I received. I use black lights to identify pigments and varnishes (I'm an art conservator). I needed a long bulb for photodocumentation and this one definitely does the trick. I wish the cord was a bit longer but that's a minor setback. I'm not a pro of black lights in general, but I feel like this product is pretty cheap, and looks pretty neat also. Would buy it again. Also, great customer support!!

This light probably isn't the best choice for posters
Bought this to complement a blacklight poster that I owned. The cord is on the short side, but an extension cord or power bar can help with that. There are holes on different edges to accommodate hanging via screws or nails, which allow you to install it so the light points in different directions (there is a curved mirror where the bulb sits that directs light). I mounted the light on the wall directly under my poster, with the light pointing up at it. Unfortunately, due to the mirror's curvature, only the bottom half of the poster was (weakly) lit, with most of the blacklight being spread to the other side of the room. This light probably isn't the best choice for posters, but seems to be good for rooms.

Nice lights
Ordered 2 of these for my arcade one arrived broken, customer service was fantastic sent me a replacement right away. The lights unfortunately weren't bright enough for what I wanted and I ended up returning them.great product just didn't work for what I needed.
