Non-new installs be aware

Would be five stars if I was doing a new installation instead of an upgrade. There are other brands where the hole opening only needs to be as big as the unit. This is accomplished with pieces like mounting flanges that can snap off, and the exhaust mount can extend into the housing, secured, and then slid back out. For this model, the flanges are not designed to be bent to reduce the footprint; you can still bend it, but it still bulges out a bit. Granted, my existing 4 inch duct is 90 degrees from the exhaust position, and I needed to cross a beam, making it more challenging overall. The only way the hole doesn’t need to be bigger is if your vent is positioned perfectly in a straight run to the exhaust. I needed to make the hole larger, use a 6 to 4 inch 90 degree adapter, and then patch the hole afterwards. Other than that, it is a quiet and effective unit. A reviewer commented that the fan/motor cannot be separated from the housing, this is not true (see picture of just the housing mounted), you can use a flat-head screwdriver to separate. As a DIYer, the price of the used condition made the extra work tolerable, otherwise I would have returned after realizing the extra work needed.

So quiet you can't even tell its on..........

Very quiet, won't be able to tell its on. I am very sensitive to noise and have the bathroom fans always wired to the lights so the showers can be hot boxed. This fan allows for that without that loud humming while getting ready in the morning. I did't realize it was working at first it was so quiet. I've done a few other "quiet" bathroom vents and this was the best yet. Had to check the airflow to confirm it was working, Great Buy!

Absolutely quiet!

I purchased this fan to replace an old bathroom fan, so the electrician had to cut a bigger hole. It is so quiet you don't know it's on. I am purchasing another one today for our guest bathroom.

Definitely not 0.3 sones, but better than a jet engine.

We had builder-grade Broan fans installed in our house which was built in 2011. When we finally finished the basement, we bought 110CFM and 50CFM Hampton Bay fans that were virtually silent. We wanted quieter fans on our main level, so we bought these Broan ones, which were a perfect replacement for our old ones, so we only had to pull the motor out and swap it, meaning that the box did not have to be modified in any way. They are quieter than before, but definitely not 0.3 sones, and are quite expensive for what they are.

Replacing motor is impossible

The fan is very quiet and powerful, and the housing construction is too good to replace the motor in case it is necessary. The hardware supporting the motor/fan was permanently mounted and locked. If the motor is not working, you have to replace the whole box, which would cost you a lot of work or even damage the ceiling. I have had a Broan Fan/Light for almost 20 years which is still working fine and I can take off the motor and fan easily from time to time to do the cleaning.

Really quiet, and very effective

Bathroom exhaust fans are not generally an exciting topic, but this one amazes me. Quiet: this is close to imperceptible. To give this five stars means that the next-best fan I have ever experienced would get no more than 2 stars, maybe 3. Effective: you can take a long hot shower, with the bathroom door and window closed, and when you finish and step out, there is no fog on the mirror. None. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before. Possibly, but I’m not recalling any at the moment. Downside: this is essentially designed to be put in as new construction. In order to use it as a replacement, you need to be able to get to the unit from above (such as from an attic). We lucked out and had access from the attic. Because of this aspect, it wouldn’t be suitable for either of our two other bathrooms. So, know what space you can order it for, and you will be delighted. Also note that this uses 6” ducting, which is readily available, but is larger than normal. Our installation guy didn’t have that size in his truck, and went to the nearest big box store and got some. I will be looking for another model from this same company to use for our other bathrooms.

fantastic compared to most fans

Fan is nearly silent...fantastic compared to most fans...only complaint is that you can't adjust the location slightly on the output as it was inconvenient when doing a replacement not a new installation..
