Great dimmer, chintzy buttons
After trying and failing to install two different wifi three way dimmers I decided to eliminate the "smart" aspect and install a three way dimmer. This was one of the few that offered the ability to dim the light from both switches, which is a necessity for me. Installation was easy if you already know how to wire a switch, and it worked as expected. I'd give it five stars if the main button to turn the lights on and off wasn't so chintzy. It feels like thin plastic and there's almost no resistance when you push it, so if you're walking by and hit it you often have to stop and push it again. This is the same on both switches. More often than not, we now slap the button with authority rather than tapping the button, which I'm sure will reduce the lifespan of the switches.

Compatible bulbs (a little trick to save on the expensive bulbs)
I don't write many reviews but I think my experience with these bulbs will help others a great deal. I bought these to control some recessed LED lights in my apartment. What you should know is that there are few standards for LED bulbs and so although this dimmer is intended for use with dimmable LEDs bulbs Lutron have have struggled to design a dimmer which caters to all. Furthermore, although they do provide compatibility guidance you may find it difficult to match the bulbs recommended with those you find in the store (even online) and they are likely significantly more expensive than the cheapest "dimmable" LED lights on the market. I assume that because the technologies is still developing quickily and its difficult to keep the compatibility both of dimmer and the guide up-to-date. So let me get to the specifics of my setup: - Fixtures - Globe Electric 90540 4 inch Recessed Lighting (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008BG6ZUO/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_11) - Bulbs - LE® 6.5W Dimmable MR16 GU10 LED Bulbs, 50W (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IXG3O3S/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_0) - Dimmers - Lutron MACL-153M-RHW-WH Maestro 150-Watt ie what I'm reviewing here The fixtures do not include and do require MR16 (shape of bulb), GU10 (socket type), LED 50W halogen equivalent bulbs. The LE bulbs mentioned above seem an ideal fit however these are not included in the compatibility guide. Our electrician installed all the lights (20 fixtures on 3 different circuits) and all looked good until nighttime when we realized that none of bulbs were completely switching off!! I discovered that this is because the dimmer are completely digital and require a very small current to operate even when turned off. Some LED bulbs still light up even with this very minimal current. Apparently for the compatibility guide Lutron do test for this other symptoms of poor compatibility; flickering, buzzing and range of dimming possible. ADVICE POINT 1 - Do not throw away packaging until you've properly tested which fortunately I did do but as you will out find returning did turn out to be necessary. Turns out there are only a handful of capatible MR16 GU10 bulbs: - Feit - 3 varieties; two 6W and one 5W - Philips - 2 varieties; 6W and 4W - Utilitech - 3 varieties; one 5W and two 6.5W Online it appeared that: - Home Depot had the Philips 6W bulb $18.97 each - Lowes appeared to have Utilitech version but it was 8W $14.99 each (really $29.98 for a two pack) To put these prices in perspective the LE 10 pack I purchased on Amazon was $65.99 so $6.60 each. For 20 bulbs this is a big difference. So needless to say I pursuaded myself the Lowes offering was worth a shot even thought wattage didn't match but before I headed that way, which is significantly further away than the Home Depot, I thought I'd check try the Home Depot option first as I had read that sometimes just adding one different bulb to a circuit can fix these issues. So I headed down to the store and as if to make things more complicate the items I saw online were different in store. Same code but the bulb was a Philips 4.5W bulb not a 6W bulb. Anyway, I bought 3 and went home and added to one of the circuits and IT WORKED. So I added one each to each of the 3 circuits. ADVICE POINT 2 Try just putting one of a different bulb types in each circuit before replace all the bulbs. And before you ask I can't tell the difference in colour nor light intensity between the LE 6.5W and the Philips 4.5W bulb. They do have a different number of LEDs but its difficult to tell the difference. One final note is that the bulbs do dimm over nice range but when turned off the dimm gradually to minimum setting and then there is a noticeable jump to off. I'm not to bothered about this however these maestro dimmer have Advanced Programming features which allows to change the thresholds for the minimum and maximum dimming. Its also possible to turn on and off the nighlight feature which apparently can improve compatibility with certain bulbs. I turned off the nightlight feature before testing add the one philips bulb in each circuit and I haven't test with this on and so may have also contributed to the succesful setup I have. ADVICE POINT 3 - The Lutron dimmers have advanced programming features which might help with bulb compatibility issues. Hope this helps.

Work but required some programming
The kit includes one Maestro dimmer switch and a one Companion dimmer switch. Installation guide is correct but confusing when compared to other documents on Lutron website such as application notes and product specification. Installation guide also did not have a section on FASS slider which I thought is an big miss since FASS is very important in installation and programming of the switch. It seems getting the Maestro and the Companion dimmer switches to replace existing 3 way switches and work nicely together required some electrical knowledge and programming knowledge. The Maestro switch is like a micro computer that after power failure requires some boot up time before getting to normal response state. For example, after a power shut down, I tap the big button once and my LED lights flicker anywhere from 3 seconds to 2 minutes depended on whether I panicked and tap the big button a few more times or press on it too long. It is as though it went through some self calibration to determine whether the Companion switch is being used or a mechanical 3 way switch is being used; or as though it is stuck in the APM (Advanced Programming Mode) and takes a minute of no button touching to time out and exit APM. In other words, the Maestro dimmer set works but it can be complicated and non-intuitive for typical user using their factory default setting. Most of my problems are solved after I download the application note # 459 - Maestro C•L Advanced Programming Mode on the website, [...]. I read the 17 page APM note #459 and went through the programming to configure all options from option IL1 to IL7. The key is to set option IL1 (Preset Light Level) to Locked Preset of level 5 (IL5 led lighted up) so that every time I tap the big button, it either turns on to a preset light level or turn off. This stops the Maestro switch from trying to find the last memory setting to turn on to and then keeps flickering for a while (because after a power shutdown or programmed factory reset, last memory setting is empty) until either jump to full brightness or lowest dim level brightness. The physical configuration is not intuitive. Big button is for turn on, turn off, and APM entry purposes when tap and for delay turn off when press and hold. Small side rocker levels are used for lower or raise light level and APM mode selection purposes. Normal use for the big button would be tap once to turn on or turn off, press and hold 2 seconds (or till IL led indicator lights up and show where delay setting is set at), and tap twice to turn on at full intensity (which rarely work unless you can get the double tap rhythm perfectly right). Lutron should have put some permanent labeling on the big button as ON/OFF and the rocker as DIMMED. On my installation, the Companion dimmer switch is powered through the Black screw (black wire - HOT) and the Maestro dimmer switch is powered through the Brass screw. I think the Blue screw is used for communication between the Maestro switch and its Companion switches (up to 9). In my case, the Maestro switch controls the LED lights through how its black wire powers the black wires of the LED lights. When use with Companion dimmer switch, default setting is .75 second to turn on LED lights and 2.5 second to turn off LED lights. Therefore one should not panicked and must resist the temptation of repeat button pressing if one taps a button and nothing happen right away. From reading the download Lutron documentation, if only mechanical switch is used with Maestro for 3 ways, turn on time is immediate, ~ 0 second. Although I am impressed with the fact that the Maestro switch is a physical work of art and a micro-computer in disguise (17 page programming guide), I took one star off because the kit did not work as normal expected 100 percent after proper installation due to the complicated and conflicting information on the installation guide. It should have been easier and should have work right of the box.

Complicated install, but work great
The installation was a little time consuming and difficult, but just follow the instructions carefully and you will get through it. Or better yet, hire an electrician to install them. After install, they work great. Have been using them for several months now and have had zero problems. Using them with a fixture that has LED dimmable bulbs and the control is smooth and even. Color of switch matches adjacent traditional switches perfectly. Very satisfied.

Does exactly what it promises to do, but the black switches are expensive.
The multi-location dimmer switch works as promised. We installed ours so that either of us could turn on/off and dim the bedroom lights from each of our sides of the bed. The gradual on and fade to off is a nice feature that gives the switch some added points. The green LED switch lighting on the master switch is a nice touch as well. I installed the slave first before the master and would recommend the opposite; install the master first and get that working before installing the slave. I miswired the master and it took a few attempts to get it working. Also, I originally pushed my wires into the back of the switch instead of looping them around the screws, and when I tried to pull the wires out (because I hooked it up wrong) the wires broke off inside the switch. The fit is VERY snug. I'm glad I have the switch installed and working and can find other uses around the house for additional installations but given the price of the black switches, I'll live the with slight inconvenience of having only 1 switch in a three-pole environment to control the dimmer.
