Usefulness probably depends on intended usage

The good: This number rod kit came with everything listed plus two extra unit blocks (white), which seem the most likely to be lost. The box was plastic wrapped, which seemed to help prevent it from popping open in the mail. They are lightly textured. They are straight, even though the pattern in the table makes them look curved in the picture. Neutral: When working with numbers ten and below, I don't forsee any major problems for any but the most exacting child. However, I bought these to familiarize myself with a different method of teaching, so your mileage may vary. One side is marked at approximately one centimeter intervals, and includes the number. Also, in spite of knowing an inch is approximately 2.54 centimeters, a centimeter is smaller than I expected. I don't think I would let a kindergartner use it without one on one supervision. My cat also seems oddly attracted to the blocks, so you might want to use them in a room that animals don't have access to. The bad: Except the 10 (orange), the blocks are each approximately 1 millimeter short. This may lead a child to make false conclusions as pictured with the measuring tape. The larger the number, the more likely an error will occur. At this point, I don't know if people will find them useful or not, but I'm hoping that the details I gave will be enough to make an informed decision.
