Slight Let Down
I have heard so much about this comb for years and years. Finally broke down and bought one (didn’t want to b/c I already have too many styling tools lol). Has a good weight in my hand but I feel that the material surface texture is not smooth enough to give the hair that glide when detangling with conditioner. I wanted to substitute my old Mebco comb with this when detangling my daughters copious amount of 3b/3c but I find myself reaching for the Mebco one, even though the ouidad detangler can handle more hair. Oh well lol.

Best of the combs available for curly hair
Updating since original post- the teeth of the comb file down within the first week of using it, which makes it easier to pull through the hair. If you’ve tried it, and only for a time or two before giving up, give it a week. Truly, the Ouidad double row comb is the best available for any tightness of curly hair. It avoids separating your hair when you comb it wet. Original post: I’ve tried a number of combs for my heavy, long, curly hair and not been successful. My hair stylist, one of the rarities who knows how to cut curly hair, uses this comb on me. I’ll mimic the other recent reviews - I prefer the old design but this one works well in comparison to all others I’ve found. It requires a little more delicate touch than the old design, so I’m learning to be more patient with it. I suspect it will get easier as the plastic “files down” from my hair after a few weeks too. I also suspect this one is more durable for travel and dropped. The old design was an solid/hard polymer, but if you dropped it on tile, teeth would sometimes break at the base. So I think that will be a big plus since I’ve only ever bought a new one bc of broken teeth.

New material but still a VERY effective/efficient comb
The material for this comb is MUCH lighter than the original comb, which is still ok. The original comb was made of some sort of extremely durable and heavy plastic (?) kind of material that didn’t bend or yield…and the weight of it made your hair submit to the comb, which made combing extremely efficient and effective. Although this comb’s material is much lighter and more bendable than the original, the science of the comb still works. The double row, wide teeth and round ends combined make getting kink and knots out almost as effective as the original, even if the comb yields a bit to the hair sometimes. This comb massages the scalp and moves through the hair with little to no breakage, so even though it may not be the same as the original, it is STILL EFFECTIVE. I think this comb is a good buy. Better than 95 percent of combs out there on the market, in my opinion. And the pink ombré color is just FABULOUS and fashionable. I suggest trying this out.

Tackles my tough tangles!
This comb had been a welcomed addition to my arsenal. I have coarse, thick, 4c natural hair which I absolutely love! I was looking for something that could handle the thickness and coils of my hair without tearing through or damaging it. I found this comb to be perfect for me.

Better than other options
Ouidad definitely redesigned this a bit to use less material, but it also means it’s hollow inside (so not as heavy to pull through thick curls) and has two separate pieces put together rather than one solid piece as before. Not as good as their old (black) version, but still the only double comb like this.

Amazing detangler!
This is a great detangling comb. I’ve been able to cut down my detangling time in half. Easy to clean as well.
