Had to add things to install

The wires that come with this light are kind of cheap and really easy to accidentally sever while installing. If they get caught between the mounting plate and back of the light while you're trying to push the light into the clasps, they will get cut. Then there goes $50. I got one of the square lights and it's difficult to get a look at exactly where the wires are while trying to snap the light in place. Another issue is that the mounting plate needed to extend out further because the back of the light has edges that are not flush with the portion that makes contact with the mounting plate. You'd have to push the light too hard, bend the entire light inward, and possibly crack something inside. I gathered a number of plastic washers that I stacked and mended together with electrical tape and placed the stacks on the top (ceiling) side of the mounting plate before screwing up into the plate. This just made the mounting plate secure while allowing it to come down away from the ceiling a little. It's a nice light, it's just taking me forever to trial-and-error the installation. If you have older, stiff wiring in your house this is going to be a pain. Luckily you won't have to change it out or change a light bulb for 5 years at least.

Slim design, good lighting

The design and function of this light are great, it's about the size of an extractor fan grill. Fitting was OK, you just need to be organized with regard to getting the wiring in the electrical box and keeping out of the way.

Easy installation, looks great, but seems to require a special dimmer

Installing the W.A.C. FM-05SQ-930 was a breeze. I took out the previous fixture, connected the three wires to the appropriate wires (remember which wire is the ground before you disconnect the old one), screwed the very flat mounting hardware in place, and popped the body of the new fixture into place. I first made an error and installed the mounting plate with the screw for the ground wire on the bottom, but realized that this prevented the fixture from lying flush on the ceiing, so I had to redo it. A second thing to be aware of that, since the fixture isn't round, you have to make sure the mounting plate is screwed in in the exact right position, or your fixture won't be parallel to your walls. The light can be extremely bright, which is good for when you're cleaning your hallway or bath or wherever your placing this fixture. But using a dimmer, it doesn't get as dim as my old halogen bulb. There seems to be a minimum dimness when it's on. Unfortunately there is also an incompatibility with my dimmer switch. When the switch is off, there is apparently still enough voltage getting through that the light fixture has a dim glow. And when it is on, the light fades up and down in brightness, sometimes sending the dimmer switch through cycles of bright and dim, and occasionally pinging like a silent flash of lightning. I am guessing the fixture, if you want a dimmer, requires a special kind of low-voltage unit, so you can add that to the expense. Overall, I'm happy with the flat and neat appearance, the clean bright light it can output, and how it doesn't get hot. But depending on whether I can resolve the dimmer situation, I may not be able to use it.

Make sure there's enough space in your junction box

Some fixtures call attention to themselves, and some just provide light. This one fades into the ceiling until you turn it on. It does have a small issue with my dimmer (Lutron). If you dim the light way, way down and then turn it off, when you turn it on the light doesn't go back on - you have to kick up the dimmer a bit. (Edge case, not a big deal). Installation is easy as long as you have room in your junction box. First, there is a round bracket to attach to the box, using the included screws - this has semicircular slots to put the screws into, so you can fine-tune the square fixture's rotation. Then, attach the three wires (two on the square fixture, one (ground) on the aforementioned bracket). Then, snap the square fixture into the bracket. Ah, but the guts of the fixture want to go up into the junction box, and those guts are in a base that is a solid 2.5" in diameter by 1" high. So, make sure there's enough space in your box. I had to swap out the included chunky plastic wire nuts for some smaller and fancier ones, and horse some wires around. It would also have been nice to have had a paper template to help with the bracket alignment, though using some tape to mark the locations of the clips and slots solved that (see picture).

Nice Color Temperature and Light Output.

I installed this last weekend and it took about 10 minutes. It has a metal mounting ring that you install on your round or rectangular electrical box. The ring has a hanging slot that allows you to suspend the fixture while you wire it. It took a few tries to line the mounting tabs on the back of the fixture up with the two mounting slots on the metal ring. Once inserted and twisted in place it is held securely. The light output is bright with a good even spread. I like the 3000K color temperature. It is not too yellow like a 2700 can be nor too contrasting like a cooler temperature. Instant ON and OFF. No Complaints.
