Nice bulbs with the occasional hiccup and pricey - $25/bulb is not bad but $40 or $50...

First, I almost sent these back because I could not figure out how to set them up on android. Support help person was helpful but the self-help was not. Unfortunately, you need to go through the self-help to open a ticket if you are having issues. Set up wants you to run them through an update on android - skip this and everything works fine for initial setup. Update the bulb after initial setup. Otherwise, the bulbs are great. The software needs some work. It has its own hiccups but nothing that makes the bulbs a deal breaker. It would be nice if LIFX hired a usability expert because the user experience is non-intuitive - i am sure some product manager thinks it is adequate but I doubt the UX has ever been tested with real user feedback. Occasionally, the bulbs do not perform the action requested from the app but it is not too hard to get the app and the bulbs re-aligned. As a result of the price, I have partially converted my home to bulbs as I wait for sales. Every sale I will definitely buy more either to add more to my system or to have backups on hand so I don't ever pay full price. I won't pay more than $25 per bulb or 4 for $100.

LIFX bulbs have become much easier to set up

I've owned LIFX bulbs since 2016. I've also had to replace four of them since then because of problems. I had one bulb fail on me completely this year after just a few years of light use. So, I wish LIFX provided a longer warranty. Still, I'm committed to using them and currently have four. This week I received a new bulb to replace the one that failed earlier this year. And I was surprised and pleased that the steps for setting up the bulb have become much simpler. Back in 2016, it was a much more comvoluted process that would often take multiple attempts. But when I set up the new bulb today, the process was much simpler. It only took a few minutes and I didn't have to switch from the LIFX app to my phone's WIFI settings and then back to the app like I used to have to do. So I think these bulbs are easier to recommend now that the set up process has become much smoother. I still think they are overpriced at their normal price--they normally sell for $50. Although i got my latest bulb on here for $39 and two days later Amazon is selling them for $25, which is the lowest price I've ever seen. I think the bulbs are definitely worth it at the lower price and maybe LIFX will lower their non-discounted prices in to compete with cheaper bulbs from other companies. We'll have to see.

This is the best! The light stays bright on color shades!

I have had other brands even the Phillips Hue and all others are super dim when you select a color. This actually has bright colors!

LOVE these colored lights

LOVE these lights so much I bought 12 of them to use in up/down exterior light. Tested several different lights and these are the brightest and richest color. WiFi connection is better than others tested as well. Functionality is exceptional and intuitive for me to figure out. Couldn’t be happier.

Setup has become a lot more complicated

I have 4 other Lifx bulbs that easily setup in the past but this latest new one won't finish updating so that it can even finish the connection process no matter what I try. It just constantly gets stuck on the updating firmware step and after hours of trying and waiting I've come to the conclusion it must be defective but I guess having a 5th bulb that's defective is maybe an ok average. I'm returning it for a replacement that will hopefully work or maybe just be the latest firmware out the box. Update 3/12/2023: I finally got it to work but NOWHERE in the Lifx app's setup procedure does it tell you that you have to switch off mobile data during setup. I went to troubleshooting on the Lifx site and gave a walkthrough that indicated this. Previously I've setup my Lifx bulbs with an Android tablet so I hadn't encountered this issue. It would seem more logical that Lifx should include this crucial instruction directly within the app when setting up their bulbs. Because of this missing information I thought I had a defective bulb. Now that I've found the info that should've been in the app I'm adding a couple of stars to my review. This could be a 5 star product though if they had more sensible and informative setup instructions within the app.

Great product, deceiving product image

I've always liked the LIFX brand of smart lights, and the app is simple and easy to use. I would have given this product 5 stars, except for the fact that the image used is deceiving in the fact that it shows 2 bulbs and a 2 pack. There is only 1 bulb, it's a single pack. My fault I guess for going off of the product image and not the description in detail.

So far so good

Bright, solid. Love the colors. I am using it without Alexa. App can be improved, overall nice design. Expensive but worthed. Let’s see how long it last. Hate that we need to sign in. Prefer to have the information on my phone or stored in my icloud. The only reason thati I might stop using it.

good product but the app falls a bit short

This is the third Lifx product I have purchase, I also own another light bulb from years ago as well as a light strip. This bulb is solid for the offering and price, I have never had any issues with the hardware on any of my Lifx products. The lights are bright and vibrant and do light up all the spaces I have them in. The app however in my opinion just is not very intuitive and is really the only reason for 3 stars. The bulb set up this time was pretty finnicky, for whatever reason it took several refreshes for the bulb to connect to my phone. Once connected it takes you through the whole group/room set up where I accidentally grouped it with lights in another room. I honestly have no idea how to remove it from the group at this point and I don't even want to spend more time in the app trying to figure it out. One of the best parts about these lights are the effects you can do, colour cycle, flicker etc. At some point the app updated and put these in a bit of a weird spot. Intuitively you would assume you click on the light and select colour or effect, but for whatever reason you have to go to another menu, select the effect you want and then select the light which is a bit backwards. Overall its tough to recommend this product. I am a bit too deep into the ecosystem at this point to switch, so if you already have Lifx products there is nothing new here. I primarily turn them on and off as well as switch colours with google assistant to completely avoid the app, and if that's something you can do as well this product should do the job just fine. If you are looking to have more control and really use the app, might want to look at other products.
