NO MORE LITTLE SISSY CUPS FOR ME !!!
I've been using the Melitta single coffee maker for years and for the life of me can't understand why. Let me explain. I have been a widower now for just about ten years and never have found anyone's company as interesting as my wife. Thus I live by myself and without any family close by I'm the only one who drinks coffee. I do enjoy a fresh cup in the morning but brewing a third of a pot wasteful and too time consuming. That's where the Melitta single maker comes into play. A good idea and does work well for one of those dainty little cups. I'm the type of person whose not satisfied unless the cup holds at least 16 or more ounces. That's the big problem with the Melitta. If you pour more than 6 ounces of water into that unit the water has a tendency to overflow causing water and wet coffee grounds to cover the counter as well as the coffee cup. On top of that problem if you do want a larger cup of coffee it takes up to three or more refills into the reservoir. Problems with that is the water takes forever to drain through the tiny hole and the coffee grounds creep up the filter sides and have to be pushed back down. All in all not a good cup of coffee. I was actually looking for Melitta filters when I came across this large single coffee maker. I read the reviews and for the price I gave it a shot and I'm glad I did. First! The item takes at least one extra day for delivery even though it's a Prime item. Secondly the box it's delivered in is three times the size of the coffee maker. Now those are the only drawbacks I can find. The rest is pure happiness. PROS ! The cup is a great size. The material seems more than adequate It take standard # 4 filters The base is lipped and quite large There is a center post to avoid shifting off any size cup, travel mug or your favorite container There are two drain holes for faster brewing It holds more than 8 ounces at a time The coffee grounds don't climb up the filter And best of all the water seems to say hot during the brewing process CONS ! Haven't found any yet Just remember to use standard coffee making procedures for a great cup. No boiling water, two heaping tablespoons of coffee for each 8 ounces of water and always always listen for the last drops of water before lifting the brewing maker or prepare for a mess. I use a large travel mug so the coffee stays hot. I also use DD coffee, light cream and raw sugar packets. I'll continue to use the two Melitta single serve makers for company but never for myself again.

Could have been better
Too much hanging out the bottom and the bottom is too wide unless you have a cup with a pretty large opening.

Not quite like Melita
I ordered this from Winestuff, through Amazon, and had an unpleasant experience. After complaining about getting the wrong item, Winestuff apparently shipped this correct item but they failed to keep me appraised of their action. Only after a rather scathing review, did I finally receive a 'phone call assuring me that the proper Filter Cone would be delivered shortly. They were indeed correct and I had the filter within a few more hours. Winestuff is no longer the Amazon Prime vendor for this cone, and although I had to give them a 1-star in order find out what could have put my mind at ease by them sending a simple email, they actually did come through as they promised. So, for what it is worth, I'm upping my Winestuff evaluation to three stars and hoping they have changed their customer, and wharehouse practices for the better. Now, on to the cone: Actually, it is not exactly the same as the Melita #4. As you might expect, where the Melita Logo appears on their "name brand" cone, there is a blank circle. AND the ribs are less prominant. The material appears to be high temperature polymer, probably Delrin or Nylon, and my particular cone is bright red instead of black. I prefer the red color because I can see that it is clean. The cone fits nicely into my wide-mouth cups and the broader "land" area keeps it from tipping. My #2 cone required me to keep a grip on it when using my 16 Oz. mugs so that is why I bought the #4 cone. The #4 filters cost the same as the #2 (sometimes, less) and they seem to be more readily available, probably because the #2 cone is more popular. Update: On second thought and after many months of use, the chincey ribs ARE a big deal. The Melita has prominant ribs and drains out the sides as well as the end. I think I will haunt the second hand shops for a genuine Melita #4 cone or at least, for one with big ribs that go all the way to the rim. So, this is no longer a winner and if you want to save a few bucks, and are not in a hurry, you can also take a chance on Winestuff.

Very light, very large, very effective
This is a very good method of making coffee for several people when space is at a premium. Think large breakfasts on Christmas morning with limited counter space, while traveling with three to five others and only wanting to make coffee in one batch, not a cup at a time, or backpacking with the family, etc. I've experimented quite a bit with it and I'd note that I don't love a drip coffee maker (electric or otherwise) because it doesn't have the full body and flavor I prefer, but this is effective. It is noted it has two drip holes: absolutely true. It does. It brews fast, so pour v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y. Stir while you pour once or twice to stir up the grounds and get them exposed. Saturate all of the coffee, so swirl as you pour getting all particles wet. Keep the flow steady to make a strong brew. I like to keep my water temperature around 180 degrees. Boiling is too hot and makes bitter coffee. I use a no. 4 permanent filter and the fit in this device is so-so, but it works. This lets more sediment through than paper filters but is more environmentally friendly when backpacking (less trash). Also makes your cup a little stronger. Works on a carafe/pot from 2.75" diameter up to over 5" diameter -- with the top end of that range coming because the handle protrudes at exactly the same point as the ring does giving you almost an extra inch beyond the ring if you rest the bottom of the handle on the brim of the pot on one side. I can easily make up to 1.5 liters of coffee at a time with this (more than four large 12 oz. cups, more than six cups that were 8 oz. and more than eight cups that were a measly 6 oz. like coffeemakers like to pretend is average). Never had a need to make more, but I'd think it would make even more if pushed.

good price and served the purpose!
had in laws in town and had a extra carafe but no coffee maker, but did have a water kettle. This worked well for a pour over.
