Useless unless your rough-in is exactly 3/8" behind the finished wall.

I remodeled a master bath and every fixture I installed, except this one, has a range of acceptable wall thickness, or counter thickness etc. They all have some sort of adjustable trim plate or adapter to accommodate variances like that. But this requires 1/2" NPT to be 3/8" behind the finished wall, no more no less. It has a bracket that screws to the wall and fixes the position of the nipple relative to the wall surface. My supply elbow is 5/8" and the threads don't even touch it. So even if my rough-in were perfect, the maximum thread engagement is less than 1/4"?? I emailed Hansgrohe customer support asking if there was an adapter of some sort and still have received no response a week later. Another negative, it requires you to drill 4 holes for a large bracket. So, once you've installed this you're committed. No other arm will cover the holes. I bought this early in the remodel and it is long past the return window, so I am stuck with it, will probably sell it on ebay.

Though the cost of this shower arm is high, it's just a quarter the cost of the showerhead it's made to be attached to. So if you're buying this, you're already aware of the price of the system you're putting together and you can't claim dismay or surprise. Yet though I'm no fan of high prices, this is one of those rare plumbing pieces that almost justifies its high price to my mind. It's an incredible feat of engineering: itself a heavy chunk of metal, this arm is made to support a LARGE showerhead cantilevered fifteen inches out from the supporting wall. It needs to be strong and it is. You're paying for top quality engineering and manufacturing with this piece as well as for the snazzy design and elegant finish.... Another reviewer mentions that wall thickness tolerances are very precise with this piece, and you will see from the male connector that attaches the arm to the riser in the wall that, indeed, the tolerances are tight. Make sure your wall is not too thick. Perhaps hansgrohe makes an extender, I don't know. But it's not a common plumbing piece connecting the arm to the wall pipe and you won't be able to run down to the hardware store to get a fix if your wall is too thick. Actually, I would suggest buying this piece before installing your shower altogether. It comes with four drywall anchors, but with a piece this heavy supporting an equally heavy showerhead, I'd want to put some blocking in the wall (or hit a stud) to attach this arm to rather than simply hang it off the sheetrock.

Excellent Quality and Finish

This 15" arm from HansGrohe matches their Raindance E series heads perfectly. It also gives the need extension to mount and clear the wall with their larger rain shower heads. The finish is flawless and uniform. It matches the available finishes of the shower heads and trim perfectly. It is robust and features a very strong and secure mount. It needs it to support the 15" extension with a heavier shower head. It needs a wood or tile backing to provide adequate support. 5 stars.

Gorgeous shower fixture

This is a top of the line fixture that coordinates perfectly with the Hansgrohe line. I am enthralled by the brushed black chrome -- this is a beautiful and unusual finish that is going to complement so many different aesthetics. It's modern and not dated, while retaining some of the 80s/90s style that so many homes possess. I am really impressed as always with the craftsmanship as well. 10/10 here.
