It's Itty bitty
Make sure you read all the info on this little Itty bitty pan. It is TINY!! I wanted a small casserole with a lid but not this small. Seriously made me laugh. I can't think of any reason to keep it so I'm sending it back. It is .25 of a qt. It MIGHT hold a cup.

Beautiful surface, easy care, food doesn't stick. Yea!!!
I love to cook, but had always been afraid of cast iron. I tried cast iron cookware before and it turned into a rapidly rusting mess. Then, I had the privilege of reviewing a book written about cast iron cookware. I learned how to properly treat it and now I don't have any problems anymore. It's a really simple thing to do...you just have to get over your fear of them. There are numerous youtube videos about how to season cast iron. Watch them before you take your soapy sponge to clean your skillet! Now that I know how to do it, not only don't I have rusty cookware, but also, I have a fry pan where nothing sticks. It also heats really evenly and maintains its heat so things cook unbelievably well. Recently, I got another cast iron frypan not made by this manufacturer. The difference in surface texture is dynamic. My second one is rough and because of it, it doesn't clean as easily. I would get another pan from Ecolution before ever getting another brand. Evolution's pan has a beautiful, smooth, easy to take care of surface. You will love it.

Great for the grill
I keep this on the warmer in my Weber for butter - just throw it into the fridge between uses. Great but very tiny - even for butter it’s kinda smaller than you’d think. Would be adorable for tiny desserts.

3.5" x 2" ID wo/lid tapers to 3"
The ID is 3.5" at the top, and tapers to 3" at the base. The height wo/lid is 2" ID. Inside is very rough and the one shipped to me had major casting voids. That is to say ragged holes on the interior surface which don't go all the way thru. Coming from China, the quality control is a crap shoot and other may not have the same flaws. Other reviews had warned of the rough inside, so I'd intended to sand/grind it to a semi smooth surface... not going to happen. It might be fine for liquids, but I'd intended to use it as a versatile cast iron piece of cookware which would fit in my toaster oven and it's not. Might not have felt taken at half the price. For what it cost... would not buy again.

Great for heating sides or extras on the grill.
This review is for the .25 quart cast iron casserole with lid. I received this today knowing it would be small. Small it is but is perfect for warming up barbecue sauce on the grill, melting butter for corn on the cob or what I like, opening up a can of mushrooms and heating them up with some butter to serve on top of steak or hamburgers. This would be to small for any kind of side dish unless for one person. Cute little size for extras or sauces. Made nice and sturdy and I like the fact it comes with a lid on it.

Nice but smaller than you’d think
This is a very nice pan however it is smaller than I hoped for, and the sides make it seem even smaller. The usable area is much smaller than my 5 inch non stick griddle pan.

Solid Container
I use this to keep some salt/pepper mix on my counter to add some quick flavor to my foods. It's the perfect size. Minus 1 star because the handle on top is a little loose, but it doesn't prevent it for doing it's job.

exactly the size i was looking for
the 4 in cast iron dutch oven is perfect for what im looking for. i wanted to use it on my grill, to heat up flavored butter to bask the steak, barbecue rub for different chicken meats, etc. Didn't want it to be too big to take up space on the grill, but small and thick enough for it to withstand the high heat. perfect product!

Not bad. Designed for grilled cheese maybe?
It's okay. Has a very rough finish on the inside but it might just be the "seasoning" process they put it through. I'll put it through it's paces like the rest of my CI pans and update this review if it fails.

or other dishes that you'd like to keep warm as they sit on the table
I purchased four of these as a gift. Note that they ARE small, but I already knew this before I ordered them. They're very ideal for single portions of mashed potatoes, or cheesy grits, or other dishes that you'd like to keep warm as they sit on the table. The quality on these are OK. The cast iron is quite rough, and light to medium grey in colour (i.e.very raw/unseasoned and need to be seasoned properly). However, I'd take the time and work to season these at $10.99 a piece rather than buy Le Creuset or Staub cocotte's for $50 a piece. Seasoning: Turn your oven on to 350 degrees and place the casseroles on the shelf to heat up for about 15 minutes. I recommend using lard or Crisco (shortening) to season your casseroles. Using a lint-free papertowel (blue ones) or lint-free cloth, rub a small (SMALL!!) amount of fat all over all surfaces of the casseroles. Then use a clean papertowel to rub OFF the excess fat. The excess fat will scorch onto the cast iron, causing ugly shiny spots. Place the casseroles back into the oven, upside-down, so that any excess fat can run drip off. Open some windows and turn on the fan, because it can get smelly. An hour later, remove the casseroles from the oven and allow to cool before starting the whole process again. After 2 or 3 coats of seasoning, it should be ready to use. CLEANING: I don't typically use soap when washing my cast iron, unless if I'm cooking fish, or something excessively greasy. However, I have read that soap should not wash away the seasoning, as the seasoning consists not of a layer of oil, but of a thin layer of polymerized oil, which has essentially bonded itself to your cast iron, and cannot be washed away with dish soap. Do not leave your pans in the sink to soak. This will cause rust to form. Always make sure to dry your cast iron over a hot stove, completely, before storing. I always take advantage of the hot cast iron to add another layer of seasoning before I store it away. Any wet spots remaining on your cast iron WILL cause rust spots.

Good frying pan.
This is a good sized, and heavy, frying pan. I have used it a couple of times now, and am pretty satisfied. It does a great job with searing and frying almost anything. This pan comes "pre-seasoned", so I washed it with warm water and a stiff nylon brush before using it, and I didn't bother with seasoning it first. I put a little vegetable oil in the pan and got it nice and hot (important!) then tossed in a cup of coarsely chopped raw potatoes. They cooked up perfectly, crisp and tasty , and they didn't stick to the bottom of the pan. I removed them from the pan, raised the heat and put on a couple of pork chops. They turned out just fine, wonderfully seared and tender. After all this, I noticed that there was a small accumulation of "crisp" bits stuck to the bottom of the pan. Following the use and care instructions, I let the pan cool off, then washed it in warm water and used a stiff nylon brush to clean it out. Everything came off nicely, so I dried it on the stove, lightly re seasoned it, cooled it and stowed it. If you've never cooked with cast iron before, you need to know that it is different from stainless steel and coated frying pans, in the way it cooks, and in how to take care of it. There is lots of information on the web about this, so do some research to decide if this is the right pan for you. The only negative with this pan is regarding the finish; it is unpolished and is a little coarse or "pebbly". Sadly, this true of most cast iron pans produced today because the manufacturers don't bother polishing the cooking surface.
