Goldilocks jacket for Midwestern winter

I live in Wisconsin, and it gets pretty cold here. This jacket is warm enough to grab on the way out the door for most of the winter, and roomy enough to accommodate a bulky sweater for the very coldest days. In fact, it’s so roomy that if you’re looking for an athletic, trim fit, you might end up choosing a size smaller than you usually wear. The shell has a soft feel to it, and because it’s fine and lighter than the coarse nylon weave I’m used to feeling in a Columbia jacket, this jacket has a pleasing drape. It’s also pretty minimalist in design: it’s not covered with zippered pockets or seams or pieced together from multiple colors or textures. Just two fleece zippered hand pockets and one zippered exterior chest pockets. Columbia says the shell has some stretch to it, but I couldn’t feel it. It’s lined with a sort of micro-fleece though the body, and a slippery nylon in the sleeves. In between is some slightly puffy, kinda quilted synthetic insulating fluff. I have yet to test how water-resistant the shell is. I’m not a fan of the look of a detachable hood or a hood that folds up into the collar, so I like the “hoodie” style of this jacket. And the hood is lightly insulated and lined with the same nylon as the sleeves. Hard to predict how well this will hold up over the long haul, but it looks and feels so nice that I hope I’ll be wearing it for a good while.

It's Nice To Find Mens Tall Jackets!

My boyfriend is 6'1 and weighs 255lbs. I got him a XL Tall and it fits just a little loosely. During winter he can layer it with a hoodie under it. Its more of a fall/spring jacket. We live in upstate NY and he does have a tendency to stay warm all the time! Hope this helps!! Nice jacket! He loves it!

Approved! 6'4" guy here with long arms (Large Tall)

Finally! A skiing/snowboarding jacket that is all around a great fit. The sleeves fall to just below the base of my thumb when letting them hang. The sleeves have some room by also have an athletic slimmer build that is done well. The jacket is a good length, maybe a bitttt long actually. For us skinny tall guys it is definitely a great fit around the chest and midsection. But don't expect a contour. Looks fitting still. Which makes it perfect for a skiing and snowboarding. And for heavy rain and snow it's probably great. I use another jacket for my everyday around town stuff. It's surprisingly warm for being super light and flexible. Keeps the wind and moisture out as it should. Not a winter jacket alone, layering recommended. Again, what it's built for. No rips or tears after much use on the mountains!

Water repellent

Jacket keeps water out. Wind resistant so no cold air will come through the jacket. Only grief wish the soft in-line would reach you the top of my back neck. It’s the wind breaker material that’s cool to the touch. Fits good if you have a long torso.

Well made, true to size, heavier than expected.

I was actually hoping this was bit thinner, like other softshells I've owned, but it's fairly well insulated. For me, it's probably good into the high 20s up here in New England. Initially I was slightly disappointed that it was thicker than I expected, but I realized that since it has a hood, it's probably better that it's good for cooler weather. I'm keeping this and looking for a hoodless softshell that's a bit thinner. Construction seems decent, fits like all the other XLT stuff I own. I recommend it.

It fits a little large.

I bought XXL Tall size jacket for my husband and it not that long but quite big. A little bigger than its size. Soft fabric, nice lining, some padding inside. Pockets with zippers. I got the black one. You can wear it up to -10C and when it is gets colder you need a warmer jacket.
