Pants are awesome!!! Great for hiking. Drys quick!!

These pants are perfect. They are sturdy. Quick drying. The pants has a zipper to remove of the leg portion from the knees. Also known as zip off pants. My son is 4' 3" and weight 68lbs. I initially bought a medium but it was too big. I kept it since I was very satisfied with it. The small size fit perfect. They have 2 front pockets along the sides and 1 zipper pocket along the side. It does not have back pockets. Kind of a bummer but not a dealbreaker. My son & I went hiking and ran into some snow. His leg portions got wet. Within 20 minutes, it has dried up. Exactly what I was looking for. These will be perfect for backpacking trips in the summer. Colombia, please put some rear pockets too. That would be my only advice I have for them.

Waist buttons fall off!

My son likes these pants well enough & they were very handy on our recent hiking trip. They seem to run big but my biggest complaint is that the waist fastening button on both pairs of pants that I bought fell off after just 2-3 wearings. Each pair had only been washed once. Fortunately the button fell off in his hand both times so I can fix it. There is no extra button provided. I would have expected better quality from a Columbia product. Rather disappointed.

Go-To hiking pants for my boys

These are wonderful hiking pants for kids. I buy a pair every summer for my oldest son and they get used all summer for hikes, biking, climbing mountains and then get passed down to his younger brother. We are outside a lot and on the go in the mountains so being able to unzip them into shorts when needed, is so convenient. Definitely a necessity for our boys! For reference, I bought a size small for my tall, lean 7 year old. The waist has elastic and buttons to adjust sizing.

Runs very large.

Ordered 14/16 for daughter who wears that size. Very big on her. Order down. Great quality fabric. Worked wonderful with a belt for our Florida fishing trip.

Nice product bit runs large

Great quality product but it runs big. The XS (6-7) is bigger than Old Navy and Target boys’ small. Way to big on a boy who wears a 6 or is just fitting in a Small at the aforementioned brands. We’re just going to hold on to then until he grows onto them.

The Size Chart on This Listing is Wrong

Great fabric and quality. I'm a multi-decade fan of Columbia gear. However, the size chart given for this listing does not match the official Columbia chart. According to the chart here, a Boys XL should run 29.5". I bought two pair for two boys with 29" waists. One pair measures 31.5" and another measures 32". When I cross-referenced the Columbia chart on their site, a Boys XL should measure 31". I recommend you check the Columbia site for measurements and not rely on the chart listed here.

Kid tested and approved!

My son loved these pants we bought for a hiking vacation. Unsure of what weather temps we would have, the option to use as a pant or shorts were a big plus. For a 7 year old the zipper was a little tricky but with parent help the legs easily went back on.

Hard to find fit

The product itself is quality, however the sizing is odd. We ordered/returned two rounds before we found a pair that would fit, and they still aren't a "perfect fit". Otherwise they are as advertised and look nice.
