Great for sanding anything irregular
When my puppies found my 5" sander, I was a little upset. The sander backing was more pebbled than a golf ball and completely unusable for for sanding. However, a bad thing turned rather serendipitous when I learned that Bosch made different backing pads. I have used the very soft for tons of projects. In fact, since I have two Bosch Sanders I keep one with hard and one with extra soft. This worked very well for me. I think the default pad for most Sanders is soft. Of course that means they are neither really hard nor really soft. If you have a project that is not a series of flats joined at right angles, I encourage you to try the extra soft. Lastly, I have been using one backing pad now for a couple of years...so it's more durable than the festool backing pads I have used.

Not very soft at all, hard plastic backing counteracts softness of the pad
Should work fine for flat work, but not for the purpose that I purchased this pad. I bought this to fit into the concave angles on a Maloof style rocker, and the soft rounds of the spindles and rockers. I have seen flexible & soft pads from other mfg. I thought this would be similar, but no joy. So I will continue using oversize 6" and 7" sanding discs to get into the inside arcs, followed by a lot of hand sanding. bummer PS: 2 of the 3 rating features don't make sense at all

Use this for curved edges
I recently made up and installed new solid surface counter tops and this soft pad was a great help when sanding the round-over and bullnose edges. Beware the hook surface is rather short so some brands of sanding discs won't stay on very well. I finally used Norton and had no problems.

HIgh quality OEM sander accessory, good price
Quality OEM accessory for various Bosch random orbital sanders. I use this for fine grit sanding and polishing of "round-ish" items like headlamps, golf clubs etc. For flat items the "default" pad is better suited.

Don’t think it will last long
Don’t think it will last very long! I replaced the original backing pad that came with bosh sander and have used it twice now. It seems as though the top layer is peeling off when I try to remove the sandpaper. It might be because it’s the “soft” version?
