Almost a great trowel
This is nearly a great trowel: Good, flat steel plate, crisp 1/2" x 1/2" notches with good spring and no tendency to bend, a solid spline with no sharp edges, cleans easily with no tendency to rust or stain. Then there's the handle ... close to an ergonomic failure. It's big. Too big. It's almost 2" in diameter. My other trowels are all 1.5. I have large hands and my thumb barely touches two fingers when gripping it. Using the long notched edge on a floor against a wall, I can tilt the trowel no more than 8° for the first inch or two, requiring the use of the short notched edge instead. And from personal experience I can say that flipping this trowel one-handed isn't a good idea either. The only good feature of the handle is that it's easy to remove. Nevertheless it's a good trowel and ironically, if the manufacturer would only decide to save a little money and shrink the handle, it would be a great one. In the meantime, I've taken a drawknife to mine and am much happier.

Wood handle is a little big but I just have smaller hands but performed as it should and it did.

It worked as it should I just wish I could have found one about 1/2 of the size. For a woman and in tight spaces a smaller one would have been easier to handle. The tool itself was great.

This trowel worked perfectly and was my main trowel for my basement bathroom wall tile installation. I first tried using a 1/2" x 1/2" trowel but felt that for wall tile it was putting down just too much mortar and my 1/4" x 3/8" wasn't putting enough down, so this one was the perfect compromise. To me the most important part of a trowel is the handle. To be honest, if it ain't comfortable you ain't gonna want to use it. The wood handle on this trowel is perfect for my hands, it is curved perfectly and is not too big and not too small (diameter wise). I was able to get the right angle on the trowel with great grip.
