Some significant design flaws
The good: Easy to read Mileage appears to be accurate Reasonably priced The bad: VERY susceptible to interference SET button jams A little balky going from mode to mode Overall, I like the Protege 9.0 wireless, but the three design flaws I noted are annoying. If I realized just how susceptible to interference the unit is, I probably would have bypassed it. Like others, I noticed it reading ridiculously high maximum speeds. I cannot bike at 50+ mph, even going downhill. Yet, my second time out, I got a max speed reading of over 50. Which was more reasonable than my first time out, when my max speed read over 90. I wrote to customer support at Planet Bike, and they replied "I think the momentary reading of 90+ mph has to do with some sort of interference the computer was picking up. Occasionally riding by certain high power lines or electric sub stations may cause the computer to momentarily show a very fast (and incorrect!) speed. I have also heard (rarely) from someone who has this happen due to a street light. Generally this will only last a few seconds and will not really affect the average speed since it is such a small amount of time relative to the total ride time. I realize this is somewhat annoying and I apologize for this inconvenience. By design wireless computers are open to receiving a signal and unfortunately certain high power devices occasionally cause interference." On my ride today, I discovered the source of the interference. It's my own bike horn. This one: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A7Y5EEK/. As soon as I sounded it, my max speed jumped up. I later noticed a current speed reading of "E" when sounding the horn. So that's weird. My Cateye Vectra wireless from 10(?) years ago did not have any such problem, even with this same horn. I also noted that the SET button gets stuck. It stuck when I was first setting up the unit. The instructions say what to do when this happens, but how about designing it so that it doesn't get stuck? Finally, the way you switch modes while riding is by pushing the entire unit, which is supposed to push down on the mode button on the back. I find that about 1/3 of the time, I haven't pushed enough for the mode button to engage. Other than these complaints, for which I dock a total of two stars, I like the unit. It's nice to see my current speed, ride time (which accumulates only while moving), and ride distance at once, along with a choice of odometer; temperature and time; or average speed and so-called maximum speed. Edit: My original review gave three stars. I have taken it down to two stars, because I have discovered that sounding my horn also screws up the distance traveled. Apparently, the horn registers interference that makes the Protege 9.0 wireless register phantom wheel revolutions. I really need only four things from my bike computer: current speed, ride distance, elapsed ride time, and odometer. Of these four, the only one that I can rely on is elapsed ride time. It comes down to which I need more: the horn or the Protege 9.0 wireless. Because I bike on a rail trail with a bit of pedestrian traffic, the horn wins. I am going to remove the Protege and go back to my Cateye Vectra wireless, until I find something better. Second edit: I am going back to three stars, because of Planet Bike's customer service. They asked me to send the Protege 9.0 wireless back to them (even though I no longer have the box), and they are going to send me a Protege 9.0 wired bike computer, and they're giving me a $15 credit in their store (which I might never use, but that's OK). They say that the wired version is not susceptible to electrical interference. OK, so I might end up paying the wireless price for the wired version, but Planet Bike is trying to do what they can to make it right.

Good Design - Some Significant Flaws
Now that I've had this for a year, I felt I could write a decent review. Pros 1 - It is easy to set up. You can orient for either a handelbar or stem mount. I mounted on the arm of my Profile Design AirStryke aerobars which is like a stem mount. The sending unit was easy to adjust to the spoke magnet. I've had others that were really finicky. But this unit probably took less than a minute. 2 - I like the way they did the display with the time, speed, and distance always displayed (and large) while you get to change the bottom segment to odometer, average speed etc. 3 - The wireless sending / receiving seems to work well. It never misses a beat And I've never seen interference. With other wireless speedos, I've come out of a store only to find my bike, although apparently standing still claiming to be going at 80mph. No such problems with this unit. Cons 1 - Like many, it's not easy to get the zips tight enough to keep the unit from moving. I prefer the mechanism on (at least some) cateye units that have a cinch nut kind of like an auto hose clamp. 2 - Like some other modern units, this does not have any visible buttons. you push the whole head unit to change modes and reset your trip odometer. There are hidden buttons on the bottom for setting up the unit. The head unit is pretty stiff to push when you need to change modes, reset the trip odo and such. Not a big problem for me based on the mount orientation but I'd guess some with a handlebar mount might have issues if they can't get the zip mount tight enough. 3 - The temperature on my unit reads somewhere between 8 and 10 degrees high. To be fair Planet Bike would have replaced it, but I didn't bother because they couldn't resolve the avg speed problem (below). 4 - The average speed has a bug. When you start out, the up down triangles (faster/slower than avg speed indicators) aren't right. What I found out was that you have to cycle through the modes until you go through the average speed display. After that, the up/down indicators will work. Until it doesn't. When I contacted Planet Bike they acknowledged this was a known bug that has been around for years. From Planet Bike: "The second issue you’ve discovered is a software quirk/defect that we discovered about 4 years ago. . . . The plan was for this to get resolved in the next redesign of this model but that time has yet to come. Quite honestly I’m not sure it will come and the computer may be discontinued before it is revised. " Seems to me that allowing a known software bug to go on for years doesn't show a lot of care for their customers. 5 - My last complaint is probably more my fault for not reading the description carefully enough. It only has one trip odometer. Every other speedo I've had has two trips odometers so yo can for example reset the second trip to measure a specific segment of your ride while keeping the entire ride distance intact on the first trip odometer. When this mentions two, it is really one for each of two bikes/wheels. Other Thoughts The instructions indicate an auto shutoff after 5 minutes. I'm not sure my is any longer than 1 minute. At the end of a ride I stop (of course), get off the bike, unzip a pocket in my trunk bag and push the garage door opener button. I then take out my wallet, a bungee that I use to strap the front wheel and a pen & paper. By the time I have put the wallet and water bottles inside the garage (about 4 feet) and come back to write down my mileage, average speed etc, the unit has shut off. Maybe it takes more than a minute from the moment I stop, but I doubt it. The head unit uses a common 2032 battery. I don't wait until a battery dies, but change them sometime in the middle of winter. So far so good. This model does not support cadence so if that is important to you, you need to look elsewhere. Conclusion The speedo is ok. You can work through the avg speed problem and probably find a way fix any slippage / rotation from the still push button. But it isn't the cheapest around and doesn't really offer anything really beyond basic standard features. If you must have a wireless and don't need cadence this unit will probably do the trick. I've had other wireless and for example absolutely hate the setup on the cateye double wireless. For me, I will probably bite the bullet and tape those ugly wires to my bike the next go round.

Good but stopped working after 6 months
Good product, great display and features, easy to fit. But it stopped working after 6 months (I changed the batteries in both units but didn't change anything) At that price you would expect it to last longer.

Mount works on handle bars or stem
I was able to install it on my fairly short stem which wasn’t clear in description. What I like: I can see speed, elapsed time, distance, and average speed without changing screens. Large numbers. Temperature fun to have. Probably not that accurate. Easy to install. Best computer I have ever had. I do not like the Cateye products for having to switch screens often.

Perfect bike computer for me
Perfect bike computer for me! I love the multi-line display. I cycle mostly country lanes in the early morning (dark now!), so can only see the computer when I pass under a street light, so there's no chance to cycle through menus...with this one I can get all my info in a flash! 4 stars because it came with 2 batteries, both of which were flat! I had to buy new ones, but now everything is working great. Easy to install too.
